Nicola O’Byrne RGN RCN IBCLC

Regina Keogh  RGN RCN IBCLC

Regina is a registered paediatric and general nurse. She is currently working as a Neonatal Clinical Nurse Specialist at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin, Dublin. She has worked with acutely ill infants and children for over 20 years. She has a passion for lactation support and has been a voluntary Cuidiú breastfeeding counsellor since 2010 and an international board certified lactation consultant since 2015.In her role in Crumlin she co-facilitates breastfeeding education days with the aim of improving the level of clinical lactation skills for health professionals. She also co-authored the 2016 HSE publication Breastfeeding and Expressing for your Premature or Sick Baby.

MeabhAnne McNamara RM RGN IBCLC.

MeabhAnne McNamara is a registered midwife and IBCLC. She currently works in private practice in the Dublin, Kildare region. Meabh spent 20 years working with sick and compromised babies in Mt Carmel’s Special Care unit before becoming Lacation Consutant for the private hospital in Dublin. She is a past President of the Association of Lactation Consultants in Ireland and is currently a volunteer on ILCA’s professional development committee.

Meabh will be contributing to the day by presenting a case study and helping  facilitate workshops



Christina Cotter, BSc, MSc, MIASLT

Christina Cotter is a registered Speech & Language Therapist with over 17 years’ experience working with infants, children and their families. She currently works as Senior Speech and Language Therapist specialising in Cleft Lip/Palate at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin, Dublin, having worked in the area of Cleft Lip/Palate since 2007. Her role involves the diagnosis and management of feeding difficulties in infancy, as well as specialist assessment of palate function for babble/speech. She is lecturer in cleft lip/palate and craniofacial disorders for undergraduate speech therapy students in Trinity College, Dublin. Christina is passionate about the importance of the infant-parent feeding relationship and early identification of feeding difficulties. She is co-author of a new infant feeding assessment tool, the R.O.S.E. Feeding Checklist, which is currently under development at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital and which it is hoped will eventually be used nationally on maternity and paediatric wards.


Details about the day..

CERPs and attendance cert for all participants.
Participants will learn about how babies suck and swallow when breastfeeding. Proceeding to an in depth exploration of common problems such as weak suck, excessive air intake, suck and  swallowing dysfunction  breastfeeding. While tongue tie will be covered, it is not the main focus on this day. After lunch there will be a practical session, with many tips on helping these dyads. Timetable available soon.

What’s included in the fee?
Attendance, tea/coffee/scones on arrival. Handouts. Complementary car parking, Wifi . *Lunch is not included in the fee *   Previous attendees have liked to have the choice to choose their lunch venue around the area and keep costs at a minimum.

Can I bring my baby? 

Babes in arms are most welcome (in fact encouraged!) . The event is not suitable for older babies/toddlers who are very vocal and mobile. Please be aware, it is a formal teaching day and if your baby is unsettled, it’s best to step out and tend to their needs outside.
